Join us for a daylong to honor Riyaz and the profound spirit of his teaching. For those who were with him on retreat at Land of Medicine Buddha, the rhythm of the day will feel familiar. For those new to this setting, it will be an opportunity to touch into the heart of what Riyaz offered on retreat – meditation and inquiry, his clear and direct teaching, the warmth of community, and sacred time in nature. We’ll begin with a quiet morning of practice in the Pine Room, come together for a community lunch on the patio, and then walk to the redwoods in silence, where we’ll create a memorial altar for Riyaz at his sacred redwood circle. Our day will be guided by Joryu Myosei, who supported and taught with Riyaz as he returned to leading retreats after his diagnosis. In the spirit of remembrance and living practice, may we carry forward the light of his presence, together.
Please note that this event may be recorded and potentially shared. There may be video recording during the morning session and discrete photography of the group throughout the event. Your participation in this event implies consent for us to use your image or your voice, so please share accordingly.
Our Flow for the Gathering
9:30 am - Arrive and Settle In

Land of Medicine Buddha will provide a vegetarian lunch that is included in your registration fee. You are welcome to bring additional vegetarian items for your lunch if you prefer. Coffee, tea, and water will be available.
WHAT TO BRING
Water bottle
Clothing and shoes suitable for hiking in the redwoods.
Anything you need to feel supported and comfortable while meditating. Chairs, zafus/zabutons, backjacks, and blankets will be available for our morning session.
Sacred or meaningful object(s) that you would like to place and leave at the memorial altar in the redwoods. If you are unable to attend and wish to have us place something on the memorial altar on your behalf, please contact Myosei.
HOW TO REGISTER
Spaces are limited and registration is required for each person attending.
Please register below to receive a confirmation email and details for the event. There is a fee for attendance of $60 per person to cover facility rental, lunch, and expenses. Any funds in excess of expenses will be donated in Riyaz’s name to Land of Medicine Buddha after the event.
Registration closes on September 19th in order to give a final headcount and any dietary restrictions to LMB. Please register early to secure your spot if you would like to attend.
Land of Medicine Buddha has a limited number of rooms available. If you’d like to stay overnight, please contact them directly to make reservations.
